Easy as 1, 2, 3 Step Updo

I never owned a topsy tail, but Lynn down the street did.  Heck, she probably had two.  She had everything girly, including every Babysitters Club book ever, the Mall Madness board game and a machine that gave steam facials.  We were ten.  She was awesome.

Kris Kross is no longer making music, but I figure if my fifteen year old niece can totally rock high-waisted stone-washed rolled-up mini shorts without a single drop of irony, then I can bring back the topsy tail, or rather, finally do the topsy tail since my mom never bought me one.  Is it weird that "try to resurrect the topsy tail" is on my bucket list? It's listed right after "throw myself a Liz Lemon'ed themed bat mitzvah".

So here's a super quick + simple updo version of the topsy tail, one that's a great alternative to a tousled bun or pony.   I wasn't willing to cut my hair to prove the hypothesis that this may not work well (or at all) on shoulder length hair. If you try it, let me know how it turns out.

Off to take the duckling to his first day of school.  I'm so nervous I'm breaking out.  If only I could borrow Lynn's facial machine.

  1. I can't believe no one has commented yet on how hilarious your comments were in your opening paragraph. Maybe I'm your perfect age but Mall Madness and babysitters club oh yes... Love your hair tutorials. What is it with some of us that are just boring hair doers and cant break free. Clearly when I was 10 I should have played less dream phone and worked on my hair dos!

  3. That looks fantastic!! I just got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago, but I will give this a try tomorrow. (I'm thinking it will need to grow out a bit before it works well. Perhaps I shall bribe one of my long-haired daughters into being a guinea pig for me... )
