Holiday Guide Day 24 of 26: Throw A Favorite Things Party

Tonight is our 9th Annual Elf Night, at which I make my family favorite movie while I recite every single line under my breath. #sixinchribboncurls

Although they tolerate my bizarre obsession, I thought I would sweeten the pot by turning Elf Night into a "Favorite Things" party, serving everyone's favorite dishes along with my favorite movie.

On the menu? Cookies (the birdie), popcorn (the duckling), pizza for Mike and ham biscuits for me.

I love the idea of doing this for a grown-up party, serving up everyone's favorite dishes in a memorable, personal and somewhat silly dinner for the ages.  What would your 'Favorite Things' meal look like? Lobster, chocolate cake, mac n cheese and Snickers bars?

  1. Love this! Chris had never seen Elf (what!?) so I fixed that on Saturday night. Since we'll be spending Christmas at his parents place we did our or Chrismahanukwanzika party of 2. We dressed up, even though we were just at his place, exchanged gifts, listened to holiday music and then popped in Elf. I made us latkes (at my very not Jewish boyfriend's request), then this lamb, carrot and olive dish and for dessert gingerbread ice cream sandwiches. It was kind of perfect.

    1. That does sound perfect and much more glamourous than ours. I ended up folding laundry. Just couldn't help myself! Next year I'm going to serve latkes at Elf night...love that. #applesauce #sourcream

  2. Our Christmas Eve festivities are our "favourite things" party - lots of booze, meatballs, mexican spirals (basically jalepenos, red peppers, cilantro and a whole whack of cream cheese rolled into a tortilla, cut into discs and baked. Drooling..) and Home Alone - which happens to be the movie that I can quote every line from.

I also wanted to share that the gals in my family had a Love Actually party yesterday! And we even used your genius idea of (Billy) Mac(k) & Cheese. It was decided that from now on, that will be a holiday tradition. We even skyped in with our cousins far away and watched it with them. Thank you for the rad idea and I hope you and your adorable fam have a great holiday!
