We Went to a Grown-Up Party
Saturday night the four of us went to a surprise 40th birthday party. Our original plan was to leave the kids behind since the party started a little late, but after not finding a sitter, we reverted to Plan B, which was to stuff our kids into a pair of baby tights and a tie and hope for the best.
Imagine my surprise to learn that the duckling had been waiting his entire life for an invitation to a grown-up party where, not unlike at the zoo, he could finally see for himself what large groups of adults do when kids aren't around, like eat hors d'oeuvres and dance to Maroon 5.
Also, he asked me to dance. Like, literally, "Mommy, can I take this dance?" while holding both of my hands. I made him repeat it just because it was so amazing.
Thank you, Prince Hans of the Southern Isles for teaching my son how to ask a girl to dance. Here we are tearing it up on the dance floor. The kid's got moves. Video proof.

Do you like the duckling's outfit? He picked it out himself. He did everything in that blazer...dancing, running, eating sorbet and eventually sweating like crazy. I told him it would be fine to take off his jacket, but he wasn't hearing it. He had set the handsome meter to 10 and wasn't looking back.
My little birdie was the wild one, despite what she may want you to think. She covered every square inch of the party, weaving in between every last table and eventually belly flopping on the dance floor. Let's just put it this way - everyone at the party now knows there's a bear on the rear end of her tights. That one is going to be trouble.
